Review of Batman: Gotham Knight (2008) by Dan P — 13 Oct 2012
As an anthology of six short stories featuring Batman, each done in a distinctive style by a team of Japanese animators, it's bound to be uneven. In this case the first two segments, they disappoint.
The first segment is an original idea, but it's difficult to warm up to it's "deformed" animation style. The second segment is let down by an uninspired, poorly written premise. Each of the subsequent stories is pretty good, particularly the thrilling final segment which sees Batman facing off master assassin Dead Shot.
It's a pity that much of the voice acting - from the team that defined the tone of the Batman animated series of the early 90s - is lifeless. Additionally, Kevin Conroy voices Batman in each segment, but seems out of place when required to voice a youthful anime Bruce Wayne.
