Review of Batman: Gotham Knight (2008) by Miguel B — 02 Nov 2012
Batman Anime. Those two words are all that was needed to convince me that this movie would kick ass, and I was right. Kevin Conroy reprises his role as the Dark Knight, his performance being instantly recognisable and as brilliant as ever.
The six stories all link together well to give you a view of Batman's life effectively, but what was most impressive was the animation. Each section of the film was handled by a different director, leading to six different styles of animation and each of them look astounding.
The backgrounds, shadows and colouring all paint a picture of Batman's world that is recognisable, yet unique to each vision. My favourite was the straight up anime style of the third section. It convinced me that a Batman Anime series would be incredible.
This is the most stylish Batman film I've ever seen, and it packs a great story, brilliant writing and exciting action to boot.
