Review of Batman Forever (1995) by Dr. F P — 06 Jul 2013
I think if I had watched this at the time It was released would have been so sad that Batman took this direction in film but after hearing that it's SO bad for such a LONG time I finally watched it and thought it wasn't that bad.
It's camp, its a bit TOO colorful, Two-Face looks ridiculous and it has these weird counter-culture punky sexual under tones all over the place. Val Kilmer isn't a particularly memorable Batman and a pretty wooden Bruce Wayne but I guess he looks the part.
Robin is just...cool in a weird non cool way. What's with the earring? Overall I can see why people hate this but i've got a Nolan Batman safety net so it's all right. I think if you like the campy side of Batman like in the TV show then this isn't such a stretch, right? Also I love Carrey as The Riddler (sort of) I mean, on my video tape his hair looks pink which is even better.
Yes I just admitted to liking something by Jim Carrey. CRAZY!!! Well at least it doesn't have a Prince soundtrack, and i'm saying that as a big fan of Prince...so, yeah.
