Review of Batman Forever (1995) by Jonathan S — 09 Apr 2016
After Batman Returns director Tim Burton and actor Michael Keaton both left the franchise and were replaced by director Joel Schumacer and actor Val Kilmer for Batman Forever. Batman Forever is an over the top and goofy cartoon of a film that while entertaining isn't a good film.
The acting here is just all over the place, Val Kilmer I actually think is a pretty good Batman, he's got nothing on Keaton but he's still a good Batman and a better Bruce Wayne than Keaton was.
Chris O'Donnell is incredibly grating and annoying as Robin and just has to constantly be saved. Nicole Kidman is fine but she has little character and all she does is just flirt with Batman and Bruce Wayne.
Tommy Lee Jones is a fantastic actor and should've made for a great villain but he is so unbearably annoying and over the top, he poses no threat and is one of the worst comic book villains ever. Jim Carrey was a great choice for the Riddler but he is so annoying as the Riddler.
I could not stand Carrey here and the Riddler is just a shit villain in this film. The directing here isn't very good as Joel Schumacer just made this film so over the top and stupid and decided to have this film lit by neon lights which is just annoying.
The action here I think is decent but the end action sequence is terrible and isn't really a fight. There's some good comedy moments here but for the most part the humour doesn't really hit bullseye.
While this film is heavily flawed I do find it to be quite entertaining but this movie is not very good. There isn't really much to say about Batman Forever it's a fine film with some awful elements.
I do enjoy it but it isn't very good. C+.
