Review of Batman Forever (1995) by Araminta G — 02 Sep 2017
The third installment in the Batman franchise scraps Tim Burton in favor of Joel Schumacher and Michael Keaton is replaced by Val Kilmer as the Caped Crusader. The shifts in directing and casting make for decidedly mixed results.
Kilmer's Batman is more attractive and suave than Keaton's; but he also lacks the dark presence of his former. Tommy Lee Jones and Jim Carrey do what they can as the main antagonists, Two-Face and The RIddler, and we are introduced to Chris O'Donnell as Robin.
Nicole Kidman, Drew Barrymore, and Debi Mazar make for dazzling eye candy but it just adds up to a whole lot of big visuals and very little substance.
