Review of Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker (2000) by Jesse R — 09 Oct 2007
A surprisingly thoughtful exploration of the Joker, accompanied by Mark Hamill's brilliant-as-always voice work for Batman's most enduring nemesis. The action scenes are a slickly kinetic as the best anime, and the script does justice to the Batman mythos. The re-imagining of the fate of former Robin Tim Drake leads to one of the most dramatic, terrifying, and twisted scenes in any Batman film.
When I try do explain to someone what makes the Joker such a fascinating and terrifying villain, this movie is one of the first examples I point to.
Heath Ledger has some pretty big shoes to fill.
