Review of Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker (2000) by Jordan W — 21 May 2008
Rented this on a whim the other night since I used to like the old BTAS cartoon when I was little (was feeling nostalgic). Anyhoo, an incredibly solid portrayal of Batman down the road. I don't totally love the idea of a new batman taking over for Bruce Wayne, but it was about 1,000x better than I expected.
And as always, Mark Hamill is absolutely impecable as the joker. The flashback scene of how the Joker died might in fact be THE best bit of Batman footage ever put to film....live-action, animated, or otherwise (and it's for that reason that I've given it four stars).
The sci-fi twist at the end is a bit of a stretch, but not too bad. The only other thing that I didn't care for was the super-streamlined animation style...not all that fluid or detailed unforunately (probably cheaper to produce though I'm sure).
