Review of Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker (2000) by Bobby D — 19 Sep 2007
One of my favorite super heroes is Batman. Although the films weren't kind to the Dark Knight up until the awesome Batman Begins, the animated series was faithful in their portrayal. The animated series of the 1990's spun off into a future series called Batman Beyond, where the original Batman was old and trained a new Batman.
Excellent series, and eventually and excellent movie. The animation was top notch, with a deep and dark story line. I love how they brought the Joker into this series. I don't want to spoil anything, but it was twisted.
Also, during the film we see a 15 minute flashback to the orginal Batman's final battle with the Joker, where the Joker dies at the hands of Robin after a deranged experiment. There are two versions of this film, and the unrated one is the film to see.
It is not graphically violent, but it restores what was cut from the original to give it a PG rating. If you end up liking this, all three seasons of Batmand Beyond are available on DVD, and definately worth a peek.
