Review of Batman: Assault on Arkham (2014) by Daniel M — 26 Sep 2014
Suicide Squad/Secret Six super villain heist movie. It tries to pull off a sort of post-Tarantino cool criminal ensemble vibe, and does so to a point, but it tries a little too hard to target the 'mature' audience.
Sex and violence make fleeting appearances, so it's DC taking a further step toward taking animation as seriously as Japan has for decades. Still, it doesn't quite have the brains to pull that off but it is a lot of fun and having it's own continuity gives it licence to surprise.
It ties into the aesthetic of the Arkham games but has little involvement from Batman and utilises some small time villains to great effect; but the brainless use of sexuality is ridiculous.
