Review of Batman & Robin (1997) by Andrew L — 20 Mar 2017
Welcome to the worst Batman film to ever hit the screens. The acting is dreadful. Uma Thurman is the biggest zero of the whole film. So over the top but badly, badly acted that it's almost underdone.
Just unpleasant to watch at all times. And Alice Silverstone, did she forget her British accent on her plane trip to the set? Chris O'Donnell was acceptable in the last film but now he's just a whinny little brat.
George Clooney is flat on playing Bruce Wayne and Batman. A complete failure. Then there Arnold Schwarzengger, more like Mr. Over-the-top then Mr. Freeze. The sets are ridiculous. $140 million it took to make it look like leftovers from the last movie.
How can they cram so much homosexual overtones and camp into a single film? Multiple horrible one-liners in every scene. The film even manages to copy several scenes from the first film. The opening 10 minutes, most of the pacing through the film and the last shot.
Oh yeah did I mention the bat-credit card? A BAT CREDIT CARD!? That's something that someone would do as a parody of Batman not being serious about it. The writing at least got some of the characters backgrounds right.
Mr. Freeze's back story was taken from the animated series so that was cool (no pun intended). They ever portrayed Bane properly as a Mexican wrestler pumped with venom and barely speaking, because that's how he was in the comics.
Even with the only 2 good things I mentioned previously, "Batman & Robin" is a really hard film to sit through. It's pretty much one of the worst films i've ever watched. The best this film could ever do is a "so bad, it's good" film but that might never happen.
