Review of Batman and Robin (1949) by Brad G — 10 Jan 2010
A more traditional take on The Caped Crusader than the 1943 serial, this tale brings in folks like Commissioner Gordon and Vicki Vale to help stop the evil Wizard from taking control of Gothamâ??s motor vehicles.
The Bat Signal makes its first appearance and the utility belt actually holds utilities this go around. And even though I really enjoyed the opening chapter with its news reel footage of Crime Spree headlines, I did not find it as enjoyable as the slightly less PC â??43 incarnation.
No radium Death Rays, no robot zombie men. The best it gets is a submarine lair, a train top fist fight, and an invisible man. Not bad, but I was hoping for a little more zaniness. VF.
