Review of Batman & Mr. Freeze: SubZero (1998) by Richard P — 02 Jun 2009
Another solidly entertaining feature-length outing for Warner's superior animated take on old Batsy.
The Dark Knight, Robin and Batgirl on a non-uniform day, do battle against the pitiful Mr Freeze, who is attempting once again to save his long dead wife Nora. The animation doesn't reach the heights attained in the TV series, with some clunky CGI vehicles (the Batwing excepted) and backgrounds shoe-horned into the traditional cell drawn look. But the voice work is as good as ever, and so too is the often literate script and interesting storyline.
The finale, set aboard an exploding off shore oil rig is viscerally spectacular and and the final scenes rather moving.
