Review of Batman (1989) by Darin R — 21 Oct 2013
Actually pretty solid, old school entertainment. Tim Burton's gothic style works very well with the city of Gotham, and probably captures the essence of the Dark Age comic book the closest. Nicholson cannot be compared with Ledger as his Joker is a completely different character.
The things that particularly annoyed me were the Prince soundtrack, the sometimes cheesy joker bits (dark, nonetheless, but the liberties taken with the character might prove to be irksome to the faithful), a lack of depth to Batman's character (at least this one doesn't have a smoker's voice) and Kim Basinger.
Nonetheless the wonderfully dark visuals and Keaton and Nicholson make this worth buying for Bat-fans.
