Review of Batman (1989) by Ed F — 08 Nov 2013
I think we partially owe the success of comic book movie to this and Richard Donners Superman movie. This movie set the bar for other comic book movies, and its not hard to tell why. Keaton is batman is brilliant.
To this day Keaton is still the best live action batman. Of course the hero is only as good as his villain, and Jack Nicholson as the Joker is wonderful. The direction on this movie is wonderful. Director Tim Burton really knew how to bring out the story of the film and almost gotham seem like its own enitty.
He was able to peel back the layers of the city, showing us the shady aspects as well as the architectural marvel aspects. While not as good as the dark knight, this movie set the bar for the nolan films, and we should probably praise it for that.
