This movie surpasses his obvious screenplay flaws by setting a starting point for Nolan's later superb Batman work. Bale's grim performance was clearly inspired by Keaton's mysterious Batman.
Heath Ledger also inspired his brilliant Joker from NIcholson's psychotic clown prince of crime. Moreover, the biggest of this film's achievements was Burton's Gotham: simply unforgettable.
