Review of Bastards (2013) by Justin J — 07 Dec 2013
I don't mean to sound misogynist comparing a female filmmaker to a male one, but "Bastards" is Claire Denis's "Mona Lisa", or her "Only God Forgives" -- smoldering, hypnotic, abrasive, disturbing.
It's fit to stand academic dissection years from now, because it's sure to still be discussed, maybe especially so then. Dreary, ambient, and one of Denis's best. (84/100).
