Review of Basquiat (1996) by Tracy P — 19 Jun 2007
I am the Basquiat lover, and when I first saw this movie I feel in love with Basquiat even more. However after 2 years of strictly studying Basquiat (I do have a BA in Art History and I did do my senior thesis on Basquiat) I find that this movie did not stay that true to the artist, but instead kind of made Basquiat out to be this silly, loveable guy, which in all cases is not true.
Basquiat was a crazy, dynamic, bisexual drug addict and you would never know this about him just from watching this film. I love Basquiat, the artist, and since this is the only real Basquiat movie out there, then I guess it will just have to do!
