Review of Basquiat (1996) by Justin L — 10 Jan 2008
Very interesting portrayal of artist Jean-Michel Basquiat. I wasn't really familiar with Basquiat before seeing this so I found his story, especially everything involving Andy Warhol, to be captivating.
It's also worth noting director Julian Schnabel's visual style at work here, the camera seems to never stop moving... much like the central character. Schnabel brings the viewer into Basquiat's life and the film benefits greatly from this.
Jeffrey Wright's performance as Basquiat also makes this far better than it could have been as well as the rest of the cast, especially David Bowie as Warhol. Very much recommended for anyone into bio-pics, art or just film in general.
