Review of Basquiat (1996) by Thomas M — 21 Mar 2009
As a movie this is O.K. the story is not terribly exciting or climatic, but as a document of an artist and the artistic process I really liked this movie. This is not such a big surprise when you consider that the director, Schnabel, is an acclaimed artist himself. I find the depiction of Basquiat painting very inspiring. I love the non linear mentality he uses to approach his work and the bold brush work and energy.
The performances were very fun to watch also. The whole cast from the lead Wright, to his best friend Del Torro, form sexy Forlainy David Bowie as Warhol was great. His deliveries of lines like, "Sure they're yours Bruno, everything good's yours." are so funny, they're priceless.
