Review of Basquiat (1996) by Sera F — 13 Sep 2009
An original, fascinating, and visually stunning biopic that only Julian Schnabel could deliver. Featuring a terrific breakout performance from Jeffrey Wright and supporting work from Gary Oldman and David Bowie, it feels strange even putting this film in a biographical category given how original Schnabel delivers the story.
Although it takes a while for the film to define Basquiat's character (perhaps that's even the point...), "Basquiat" is a profound film about a profound individual.
