Review of Basket Case (1982) by Krista B — 14 Apr 2009
Another shining example of terrible cinema gone horribly right, Basket Case is a trashy, campy piece of '80s exploitation gold. The story is ridiculous, the acting is terrible, the effects are cheesy, but still the film manages to be extremely original and interesting, and actually carries a semi-intelligent message about society's views of deformity and ugliness.
Of course, it's in no way high art (this is the bottom of the sleaze barrel) but it's gratuitous, bizarre, and - most importantly - entertaining.
