Review of Basic Instinct 2 (2006) by Imaad M — 30 May 2010
This movie didn't have to be bad. It IS, but it didn't have to be. The worst part is that we build the screenplay out of the Catherine Tramell character. So, it stops being a mystery and becomes solely a "who's bullshit do you believe more" flick. It could have been re-written with a different vamp who didn't bring all of that novelist bullshit with her.
Hated the lead guy, David Morrissey. But to be fair, I would be prejudiced against any British dude to pull off any bad-assery whatsoever, and this guy is as pasty as they come.
Direction was straight-to video. Anything that was supposed to be a clue or that we're supposed to be confused as a clue are directly focused in on. Each character ponders the clue and jumps to some conclusion. Again... no mystery.
Sharon Stone. I don't care what you think. She is hot as all get out. Cut out everything in this movie except her and I will give you 5 star rating for that whole 28 minutes of footage. I'll tame that crazy mess, just as soon as we finish the 3-way in the hot-tub.
May be two-stars, but still worth the price of admission.
