Review of Basic (2003) by Jake P — 05 Jun 2009
At first I was thinking this was a twist on Rashomon but however it turned into more of corruption than it went into the good all along was the bad guy and than no he wasn't. It was almost like 5 movies in one and at first I thought this movie could be considered bad or good but I felt that it was actually pretty creative as it almost pokes fun at the idea of twists.
There are so many especially the last act that as an audience member you are left confused. The acting, directing and shots help by putting you into a world that is different because of how just everyone acts.
You have no idea what will happen next and you just let the movie do what it wants. However Basic delivers every possible angle to a situation which is unique and could also be considered parody. However at the end of the movie I did not know what to feel because of how different the movie was.
The characters seemed to have no authority at first but at the end you realize they did but by the end you are not sure what the movie will give you that either you do not care or you just want to figure out the trust.
I wanted to because I liked the actors and the director. overall, though the movie was fun to watch it is a different take on a thriller.
