Review of Basic (2003) by Familiar S — 01 Feb 2011
For those like myself, who take the time to note what a movie is supposedly about (e.g.: such as this movie; basically a who-done-it-and-why), you go in knowing you're not going to be seeing some brainless movie with lots of special effects and explosions. But you in fact, MAY actually have to think and follow along with a plot that in it's own description tells of twists and turns (generally insinuating that you MIGHT have to think and actually pay attention to the movie). Great acting, an outstanding story line, and more twists, turns and corkscrews than your local amusement park has to offer, makes Basic never cease to provide the entertainment and the desired effect the moviegoer wanted from this film.
WARNING: If thought provoking and curiosity to solve the mystery before the lights go up at the end of the movie is NOT your bag... then go catch Transformers. If (like some other commenters here) you're not bright enough to follow along with the movie and are lost and confused at the end, then perhaps it's best to stay away from this genre entirely...
If you want movies to have no plot holes, seamless integration, and fall in line with your line of thought... perhaps you may want to make a movie yourself. Because even reality (you know... the one we reside in?) has plot holes, no reasons why things happen, and certainly doesn't follow along with any script or reasoning.
As with ANY movie... check your brain at the door and just keep an open mind and have fun with it.
LdR.
