Review of Basic (2003) by Tony L — 13 Jul 2012
This movie had the most fascinating, labyrinthine yet captivating plot I have ever seen. The progression of the story-line was astonishing, and staggeringly brilliant in the way it employed and entertained the mind.
I seek out, and greatly enjoy stories that have intrigue, multiple twists and layered plots. But often, the downfall of action-suspense movies, is poor writing and obvious holes in the plot. In this story, there were None.
It was complex, but not as grueling to follow as "Pulp Fiction". It was remarkable how the plot thickened with every turn. I put this film in my Top 5, all-time favs. Though the schema was baffling, I was so impressed by it's continuity.
So if you find yourself confused at any point, just pay attention, and you'll be delighted to see how it all unfolds. Like how you felt at the end of "Fight Club". This film will captivate you like "Along Came a Spider", and will shock you like "Se7en".
Easily as good as "The Prestige", or "The Sixth Sense". After enjoying this film, I can only conclude that the 55,000 people who rated this movie, (on average, between 3.2 - 5.0) were either out of their mind, or simply didn't have a mind capable of appreciating a suspense-mystery this engaging.
