Review of BASEketball (1998) by David B — 15 Jun 2012
Probably an excuse to use stupid gags but it's still a laugh out loud comedy. The acting is cheesy for the right reasons and not taking itself too seriously. The vulgar, obvious humor of Zucker brother David and South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone elicits easy, guilty laughs, yet the material has an underlying innocence that's just shy of good clean fun, it does seem odd though that Trey and Matt never wrote this but this is one of those films where the script didn't matter, instead plays out to be a great spoof, with actual near good acting and with one or two moments with real heart.
It's a great, funny, goofy, crude and really dumb in a good way, not shy to be out-going either. Worth a look if your a fan of South Park, or just love Trey Parker and Matt Stone's work. It's also safe to say that David Zucker is the best Spoof director around.
This works in what ever level you think it works, if that makes sense...in some ways, that's what film is kinda like. Brilliant though.
