Review of BASEketball (1998) by Mark W — 24 Jan 2010
This movie was one that was on my list of movies I need to see desperately.
I bought this movie as a "buy 1 get one free" at HMV, and I brought it home, watched it one day and thought, it's stupid, but it's hilariously funny/random. Just like Matt and Trey before they went political on South Park, they were being crude, just to be crude.
In a world where, competition sports become so boring that they have to integrate each other, two drunk roommates (Matt and Trey) make up a game on the spot to try and impress girls at a party (since they try to beat other guys at a game basketball, but then invent BASEketball to beat them).
From there they get an endorsement from a wealthy entrepreneur Ted Denslow(Ernest Borgnine)and soon the National BASEketball league is formed. Soon the typical storyline of any sports movie goes down, team starts to sell out, conflict, redemption at the end, love interests, just typical cliched stuff.
Filled with gross amounts of sex, dick, genitalia, and absurd jokes (Animal Roadkill: Caught On Tape), it just fits the criteria of any Stone and Parker movie. The acting and cameos are great and it was well worth the 6 bucks I paid for.
Overall 83/100.
Acting 83/100.
Sport (Bsaeketball itself) 100/100.
Psyche Outs 100/100.
Jokes 78/100.
Crudeness 95/100.
Grade A-: A cult classic that is just stupid enough to make your laugh hysterically.
