Review of Barton Fink (1991) by Nicola J — 13 Feb 2009
This movie is like a rich novel. There is so much here that even on third and fourth viewings you'll find new nuances, new interpretations. It's a narrative about a writer's struggle, a parable of nazism, an allegory of the artist and the 'common man', of man and the devil, a satire of Hollywood, an indictment of lofty intellectualism, a mystery/thriller, and a highly symbolic/surreal piece of film. Just off the top of my head.
The performances are exceptional. John Goodman is an incredible actor, his work in this is amazing.
