Review of Barton Fink (1991) by Juan C — 22 Feb 2010
The Coen Brothers go completely referential with a story about a writer entering the realm of Hollyvitz. There are great characters, including Steve Buscemi, John Goodman and a studio boss reminiscent of The Big Lebowski. The setting is wonderful with a wallpaper dripping hotel that is a few ghouls shy of a haunted house.
John Turturro is great to watch as a man suffering writers block. The film however culminates in a third act that is a little disappointing. Watching John Goodman light the place ablaze with his persona at the end though is iconic.
This is most certainly a companion piece to Adaptation.
