Review of Barton Fink (1991) by Jason R — 27 Mar 2011
Surreal story of early Hollywood. The movie has the feel of "O, Brother Where Art Thou" in its dialogue and delivery, but the dark comedy of "Fargo" (which really kicks in the second half of the film).
The debates of the writers does raise some interesting questions on the goal of films. The visuals are great (complete with the creepy hotel that would challenge "The Shining" for places you wouldn't want to stay).
A lot of the characters in the film have basis on real people that were in Hollywood at the time (though they are composites and put into a fictious story).
