This movie is a lot like Fright Night. A pretentious writer endlessly effusing about 'the common man' goes to Hollywood and is upset to know he has to write popular formulas. His neighbor is a crazed killer who lures him into his confidence and enacts a Faustian soul-sellout that leaves the writer guilty and nihilistic but finally ready for Hollywood.
Perhaps it's a Lynch-like supernatural story of the dark side like Lost Highway and Mulholland Dr that never goes far enough to definitely make a point. Anyway I really don't know what it's about, I'm not at the Coen's level I guess.
