Review of Barton Fink (1991) by Jeff L — 19 May 2013
Brilliant storytelling, rife with complex symbolism that doesn't want to give you a neat package of explanations like other mind-benders do (e.g. Fight Club); not to say these movies are not smart in their own right, but what the Coen brothers do with Barton Fink far outstrips the merits of the Fight Clubs et al; it's like comparing the Black Keys to legends of classic rock: they're pretty darn good (especially compared to contemporaries!), but they ain't Hendrix or Zeppelin.
