Review of Barton Fink (1991) by Trevor M — 24 Nov 2011
Chet! What a hilarious and surreal movie 'Barton Fink' is, arguably the Coen's most imaginative outing. Mr. Turturro vanishes into the pretentious, self-deprecating Barton Fink, and yet another stellar performance from John Goodman bring the script to great heights.
The teaming up with Deakins results in a gorgeous painterly quality and Joel Coen's clever framing enhances the feeling of something being unreal. Naturally the dialogue is dark and funny and the eccentric characters are unforgettable.
I laughed a lot and worked the old cerebral cortex, 'Barton Fink' is the Coens at their creative and technical best.
