Review of Barton Fink (1991) by Gg J — 18 Nov 2008
Only the Coens could make a film in which barely anything happens stylish, witty and truly gripping right to the end. A part of it can be put down to the cast- Turturro, Goodman, Shalhoub and Buscemi are unsurprisingly wonderful- but this film owes everything to the ones behind the scenes.
Although there are some typical Coen elements to discern, there's something unique about this one of theirs, and much of the cinematography and effects are reflective of styles used by Kubrick and Hitchcock, which when you are confronted by it, you will hopefully see as fitting and masterful as I do.
Very smart, beautifully shot, and just another work of genius from the unfailing Coen brothers...
