Review of Barton Fink (1991) by Brandon H — 13 Sep 2009
There aren't too many holes, although I'm not completely sure the ending actually adds up to what the film hopes for. Performances are awesome, the writing is strong as always, and the art direction is intimate, intense, and evocative.
I saw this movie when I was a kid, and normally I don't allow myself to review movies I'd seen before I began this RT blog, but lately I've been writing reviews for those movies I can hardly remember anything about. I needed to re-watch this one as an adult, just like I need to re-watch Platoon, The Right Stuff, Do The Right Thing, and several others important, good movies that I can't remember anymore.
Speaking of "important" movies, the girlfriend Kimberly and I are trying to get through more of those that I've seen and she hasn't. So there might be a shortage of new reviews in the near future. That's also partially due to the fact that there seems to be nothing good coming out anytime in the next couple months.
Upcoming: The Sea Inside, Get Shorty, Millions, Heist. Pending reviews, maybe The Informant! and Surrogates. New movie I'm looking forward to is "Up in the Air," starring George Clooney, set for a January 2010 release.
