Review of Barry Lyndon (1975) by Josh R — 14 Mar 2015
Barry Lyndon is the story of a young ambitious Irish low born's rise and fall in a lavishly shot and wonderfully realized European setting. Kubrick handles this film brilliantly with long deliberately isolating shots ( a Kubrick specialty) this is probably the most beautiful film cinematography wise in movie history as every shot is akin to an 18th century dutch painting this all thanks to John Alcott who won an Academy Award for his incredible work on this very film and also the Carl Zeiss Planar 50mm f/0.
7 lenses which Kubrick borrowed from NASA to shoot with.all in all Barry Lyndon is an incredible and lavish epic.
