Review of Barry Lyndon (1975) by Alex H — 05 Jun 2011
My first introduction to Stanley Kubrick, Classical Music and any movie over 2 hours... this Epic, Classic, Masterpiece is well worth the patience if you can get by the somewhat dry story of William Thackaray, and look to the utter brilliance of Kubrick as a Cinematographer and Storyteller.
I remember walking into the movie theater with my Mother as a thirteen year old and immediately being sucked into this film. My parents were always amazed it became my favorite at that age. The character of Redmond Barry / Barry Lyndon is very identifiable for me, the "Rags to Riches to Rags" story blends perfectly with my life oddly enough.
The score is among the greatest in movie history for classical music with haunting pieces by Handel, Schubert and other greats!
