Review of Barry Lyndon (1975) by Daniel M — 16 Feb 2012
I found this a cold viewing experience. But not for one perfectly framed second, I was bored. Characters in Barry Lyndon, like in most Kubrick films, remain stiff, so audience alienation is expected. But in terms of tone and development, it surpasses any period film I've seen to this day, which is the day I've viewed this so the acting restraint might grate on me next time I see this, which will inevitably happen.
But for now, i'll recommend this to anyone who is craving an impressive, striking period piece that flows at a majestic, if slow, pace.
