Review of Barry Lyndon (1975) by Monjit B — 17 Feb 2012
Barry Lyndon may have the most beautiful cinematography of any film by Stanley Kubrick. (Which is saying something) The story, which focuses on a roguish Irishman conning his way into an aristocratic family, is a long and meditative character study.
Ryan O'Neal plays the title character with depth and complexity while the rest of the cast sort of flits in and out. While not as compelling or as entertaining as some of Kubrick's other efforts, fans of the director's style will be attracted to the sumptuous costumes, perfect lighting, grand scope, and artistic vision of this film.
