Review of Barry (2016) by Anthony S — 15 Jan 2017
This fictionalized look at Obama's arrival at Columbia University is so in awe of its subject, it treats him more like an icon than a man. No narrative, just a series of hero-worship segments, each crafted to underscore Barry's intelligence, sex appeal, self-consciousness, ability to blend into any social group, and experience of racism and classism.
The results are so pat as to be unsurprising and insulting.
