Review of Barnyard (2006) by Sv G — 09 Mar 2008
This was really enjoyable. I laughed out loud quite a bit and the characters voices were all well chosen. Kevin James was perfect as the party cow and his father in charge of all of the animals on the farm was voiced by Sam Elliott and was not only great but we get to hear Sam sing "I Won't Back Down" as he ponders taking on some menacing coyotes out to harm his barnyard peeps. One note on that - the coyotes may be frightening at times to the pre-school set; but, for grade-school children and up this animated film can be enjoyed by the whole family.
I DO HAVE A QUESTION THOUGH: WHY did the boy cows have udders? I mean boy cows don't REALLY have udders do they? And ARE there boy cows? Aren't boy cows actually bulls? Don't bulls have horns or not all of them? I mean I really thought bulls were boy cows!! This city girl wants to know. I mean I understand this is just a cartoon - I mean it's not like cows play guitar and sing 80 rock tunes either - BUT - I just don't understand a boy cow (if there is such a thing) having udders. I mean surely this was discussed amongst the animators...so maybe boy cows DO have udders....that's kind of ...ewkie though.
