Review of Barfly (1987) by Chosen 7 — 04 Nov 2007
I learnt to love this story when I was a teenager and havent seen it for a long time. It is however, a story of a train wreck...that being Mickey Rourke and any accidental attempt of any form of committment, people or otherwise due to an unrepentant attitude and a fierce alcohol problem that he has the same attitude towards.
He plays an unremorsful drunk with a crazy slice on the world. Obviously that being Charles Bukowski, the extremely drunken American poet.
The story is engaging though. However much you would not want to be this guy, his 'give a f%^&' attitude to the world is strangely refreshing. He is the proverbial slow motion car crash. As is everything / everyone he touches. The beautiful one liners in which he sums up our conformist lives hit the spot though. The characters in this film too, are priceless.
"To all my friends".
