Review of Barfly (1987) by Sandra K — 28 May 2010
The film has aged considerably, but it is still a decently interesting look at the world of impoverished alcoholism. Mickey Rourke and Faye Dunaway elevate the material with terrific performances, making truly washed up individuals still endearing and people you want to see succeed even though its unlikely they will get their life together.
Doesn't play like a morality tale but instead as a voyeuristic look at a destructive subculture.
