Review of Barfly (1987) by Jacob D — 21 Oct 2011
Rourke is good (when not verging on hammy) as Henry Chinaski in this thinly veiled autobiographical slice of the alchohol-soaked times of Charles Bukowski. Dunaway is believable as the rapacious Wanda, and there are some genuinely amusing moments, although the direction is clunky and the cinematography purely functional .
Worth a look.
