Review of Barfly (1987) by Paul J — 11 Jun 2012
Such a perfect little film. Autobiographical portrait of Charles Bukowski's life moments before making it big. He keeps his integrity while embracing his uncompromising lifestyle of bar fights and heavy drinking.
The real appeal of this film comes from seeing Mickey Rourke give the performance of his career. Fay Dunaway is equally captivating and the two of them make a perfect couple. It's a slice of life with a very intimate feel.
Favorite scene: bloody face while listening to John Adams' Shaker Loops. Classic!
