Review of Barely Lethal (2015) by Howard R — 30 May 2015
Barely Lethal delivers! Non-stop "Kick Ass" action with great comedic elements throughout. Assassin trainee turns into "normal" High School teenager. What a cast, Hailee Steinfeld is fabulous in the lead role, as is almost every actor in this non-stop fun movie.
Samuel Jackson does his "Coach Carter" heading up the assassin school with Jessica Alba as Hailee's rival. If you're in high school (or ever went!) you'll love this movie. Sophie Turner, Dove Cameron, Thomas Mann also bring strong performances.
It seems the casting director put together a "wish list" of every actor for each role and got 'em all! And the big message that we all often forget - a "normal" High School experience is rarely "normal" or what we envision it will be.
And, watch out for Tony Sebastian as "Cash" the high school heart throb rock star and his original songs (the next Dave Matthews or Adam Levine?) - my bet is this movie launches him musically to the next level; what a voice and these are his best lyrics yet.
Do not miss this movie - cuz summer is about fun!
