Review of Barefoot (2014) by Mike C — 07 Oct 2014
I've wanted to like Evan Rachel Wood ever since the Green Day video, but she rarely does anything I like. This movie is weak at best, but it's probably watchable because of ERW.
Terribly, terribly implausible at best and wrong at worst. Guy leading a shady life ends up taking a mental patient as a date to his brother's wedding. Hilarity ensues! So it's very problematic and unrealistic from the start but it continues to get worse as the movie progresses.
Speedman is likable enough, but it really is Wood who carries the movie. She's very pretty in the movie and her character is adorable in that she just knows nothing of the world and is somewhat of a pure soul. Simmons tries to bring some responsibility to the story, I guess, but everything that happens just doesn't happen that way. I keep an open mind with movies, but when it strays that far from reality and it's a movie that uses reality, well, it's hard to relate to anything.
