Honestly I walked out of this film. I couldn’t stand being preached to one more minute. It’s so in your face with its third wave feminist messaging, that any genuine attempts to be fun, girly and even entertaining get bogged down.

I tried to give the film some leeway with how they treated the Ken’s, because this is a toy line marketed towards young girls. However so much of the humor, commentary and yes it’s messaging would be completely lost to the younger demographic.

The demographic that this film is supposed to be for. Barbie literally tells a groups of construction workers that she doesn’t have a vagina and Ken doesn’t have a penis. That’s literally what she says and this is supposed to something for young kids.

Also how would they know anything about anatomy? If the dolls are a reflection of the real life child (girl) that is playing with them, then what about the rest of the Barbie’s? Are their young girls still playing with them? Why aren’t they going through the same thing? Maybe they explain it later.

As I mentioned I walked out because I couldn’t take its, in your face messaging. Don’t take your kids to see this, watch Legally Blonde instead.
