Review of Barbershop: The Next Cut (2016) by Carlos L — 13 May 2016
I like Ice Cube and have seen all of his "Barbershop" films and many of the others he's produced. He gets what the problems are in places like South Chicago and presents solutions in how his on-screen character conducts his life.
In this film, however, he delivers a racist remark - "I don't like white people either" - that gave me pause. In the scene in which this occurs, if the races had been reversed it would never have made it onto the screen, and rightly so.
The implication that it was okay to dismiss a whole group of people because of the color of their skin disappointed me.
