Review of Barbarians at the Gate (1993) by Grant S — 04 Jan 2010
OK, but could have been better. Interesting and serious subject, but by adding in all the witty dialogue and trying to turn it into a comedy, it seems, the gravity and tension is lost.
Main problem is having James Garner in the lead role. For a man playing the CEO of a huge company, he lacks gravitas. The joke-a-minute dialogue from him doesn't help. His presence also made the whole movie feel like a made-for-TV midday movie.
